Who We Are

Maine Contemporary Archives is a project of the Maine Contemporary Archives Collaborative, a group of cultural heritage professionals working together to collect, preserve, and provide access to materials related to Maine community members’ experiences of current events. We represent communities from across the state. Each participating institution has collections from earlier periods, but our collaborative effort with Maine Contemporary Archives is dedicated to documenting current experiences and events.

Mission

Foster collaboration to collect, preserve, and provide access to materials related to Maine community members' experiences of current events.

Vision

Engage community members in documenting history; encourage and enable people to share their own stories and express their experiences.

Grow a reliable network of professionals and community members who will work together to collect current materials, make these accessible, and preserve them for future use.

Share tools and expertise, learning together to better document history as we live it.

Continue our collaboration into future topics and events; sustain community-based archives into the future.
