Upcoming Professional Development Events

Join us Thursday, May 2nd from 2-3pm for a facilitated conversation around deaccessioning. Our facilitators will be Pat Burdick (Colby College Special Collections) and Paige Lilly (Archival Collections Consultant). You can register for the event here.

Session description:

Many collecting organizations now aim to prioritize objects and archives of the highest historical value and present-day relevance. Yet the challenges of growing backlogs, duplication, and the practice of catering to privilege combine to make these goals seem unattainable. Developing proactive deaccessioning practices may help, if aligned with both the missions of our institutions and our unique community roles. What might we do to ease the path for ourselves and our stakeholders? Join us for an open discussion on why change is essential and to share ideas or experience for taking small steps in new directions. Session leaders will provide an overview and facilitate conversation.
